PHILOSOPHY:

My favorite part of the business is working with people to 'Achieve Success Together.' To me, this means helping clients sell their property for a good price in a timely manner. It's also helping buyers purchase the right property for an equally good value. It's gratifying to make clients happy. I have always enjoyed being part of a service-oriented business and real estate is a perfect fit. I have a back ground in appraising, which helps me accurately estimate value and analyze market trends, a valuable tool for my clients whether buying or selling. These skills really do set me apart from the competition, as well as scrupulous attention to detail, customer service and keeping in touch. I equally enjoy working with buyers and sellers, no matter how large or small the transaction. While I have marketed all kinds of properties, I find myself most often representing homes in Portsmouth’s South End, condominiums in prime locations, and unique waterfront properties.

EXPERIENCE & EDUCATION:

I've been in real estate for 51 years and have become a consistent top producer, ranking among local industry leaders. I joined Tate and Foss in 1992 and have since represented or sold many important properties ranging in value from less than $200,000 to more than $2M. I'm a former president of the New Hampshire Association of Realtors, former two-term president of the Seacoast Board of Realtors and currently serve as Chief Statistician of the Seacoast Board. My monthly news releases appear in the Portsmouth Herald and elsewhere. I have been recognized as a Distinguished Service Award winner and former Seacoast Board Realtor of the Year. A former guidance counselor and military officer, I believe I have developed excellent listening, organizational and time management skills. I retired from the U.S. Army Reserves and the New Hampshire Air National Guard in 2003 as a Lt. Colonel with more than 33 years of service. I am a graduate of St. Paul's School, Concord, N.H., Trinity College, Hartford, Ct. (BA-History) and UNH (M.Ed, Counselor Education.)

COMMUNITY & PERSONALITY:

I was born in Portsmouth and have lived here most of my life. I've been married to my wife Joan, a retired trust banker, for more than 45 years. We have one grown son, Thomas, who is married and lives in Barrington Passage, Nova Scotia, Canada. Back home we enjoy the company of our canine pal, Tuck, a rescue lab mix. The Seacoast is a beautiful, vibrant community in an unbelievable location. I support the community as a member of Rotary ( I am the Rotary Log editor) and Vice President of Portsmouth Pro Musica (I also sing in its A Capella group, The Overtones.) I am a member of the Portsmouth Athenaeum and contributor to other historical and philanthropic organizations. I served many years as chairman of the Portsmouth Historic District Commission and vice-chair of the Portsmouth Planning Board. Outside of Portsmouth, I have served on the Alumni Association Executive Committee for St. Paul’s School. I'm a member of the University of New Hampshire Wildcat Club and a major contributor to the UNH hockey and football programs. I'm also a season ticket holder at the Ogunquit Playhouse. I'm an avid hiker when not working, having climbed all of NH's 48 four-thousand foot mountains and now working on the 52 with a View.
